Trendy Workouts: Benefits Of Indoor Cycling
A couple of years ago, indoor cycling classes buzzed in as the hot new thing to try out in the fitness world with everybody, including A-list celebrities, raving about how amazing cycling was. I finally decided to check out a class for myself at MAC Gym because, honestly, a dance party while sweating it out on a stationery bike, does sound like a good time.
Arriving to the cycling studio at MAC Gym, I was surprised to see that it was actually a small studio with less than 10 bikes which might be a little intimidating for some but I was so focused on myself and the burn that I had no time to worry about how anybody else was doing. I love that the trainer told me to go at my own pace and if something didn’t feel right, it probably wasn’t and I needed to readjust position and/or intensity.
My verdict on first cycling class: I enjoyed it. Trainer was super nice, music was great and I certainly worked my legs and glutes! Below are some of the benefits of indoor cycling:
LOW-IMPACT
Contrary to activities such as running, indoor cycling is a low-impact workout. When done correctly, cycling provides minimal impact on the hip, knee, and ankle joints. Other low-impact exercises include yoga and Sculpt workouts.
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
Pedaling against resistance in indoor cycling helps you increase the endurance of the muscles in the legs including your quads, hamstrings, glutes and calf muscles. Strengthening your muscles increases your overall strength helping you perform daily living activities with much more ease.
DANCE PARTY
Like I mentioned before, the biggest incentive for most who are hooked on indoor cycling is the fact that they are getting their workout while doing it to dance party vibes. If you are new to fitness or are looking for something fun and different to add your fitness routine, I would recommend an occasional spin class.
SET YOUR OWN PACE
A great perk for everybody regardless of it you are a beginner, if you are recovering from an injury of you are a work-out pro, is that you can set your own pace. You can go as intense as you’d like or as gentle as your body requires in this moment.
BOOST OF CONFIDENCE
Like with most fitness routines, focusing on your mental strength to help you push through your perceived limits and seeing what you are capable of, will lead you to becoming much more confident in yourself. It will also fuel your ability to push yourself harder in other areas of your life.
Wrapping it up, indoor cycling was definitely a great workout and a fun time. It would be a class I wouldn’t mind occasionally doing to break up my workout routine.
