Couples Tower Isle Getaway In Jamaica
After a year and a half since our last night out alone without the kids, a couples-only getaway in Jamaica for six days sounded like heaven and it turned out to be exactly what we needed.
I have heard wild stories about some couples-only resorts like this one which is much more spicy and open than I would ever be ok with but if that’s your thing, go on and live your best life! I now understand though why I got so many swinger-related questions on Instagram about my experience which I promise was nothing like that. Couples Tower Isle in Jamaica was luxurious, kid-free and the ultimate romantic escape. Just what we needed, especially after our amazing two-week family vacation in Dominican Republic.
Upscale and relaxed, every corner is made with couples in mind. Two-person swing chairs, gorgeous view all around, au natural private island (which I didn’t realize meant nude island until we arrived but I’ll talk more about that later), amazingly delicious food, rooftop lounge, and even two excursions included in your stay.
Our welcome at the airport was super nice, with soldiers (yes, actual soldiers!) providing us with hand-sanitizer every few steps. We were then greeted by Couples Resorts staff members where they treated us to Red Stripe, which is the traditional Jamaican beer, while we waited for our shuttle (also included in our stay).
15 minutes later we were on our way to Ocho Rios, which is an hour and a half long ride but which we enjoyed because of the scenery. Reminded us so much of certain places in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
Initially walking into our room, it was nothing over the top except that we had a walk-in closet. Once we opened up the balcony doors though. Oh my goodness, the balcony and view alone made our room a 10 out of 10! We’re not the type to hang out in our room during the day so getting back to a big beautiful balcony while hearing the waves and enjoying the view and each other was everything.
One swim-up bar and another pool with a waterfall, both beautiful with gorgeous views but which being totally honest I would have preferred a bit more of a party vibe in at least one of the pools. The resort goal is to maintain it relaxed and romantic so I do get it but a bit more upbeat is just more my style.
Water sports, even snorkeling, are included in your stay so you always have something to do. We used the water bikes (not to be confused with the water pedal boats) and loved it so much! We also tried out paddle boarding for the first time and went on a glass-bottom boat tour where we got to see a sunken ship and Mick Jagger’s mansion where even Bob Marley got to party at. My favorite was climbing up Dunn’s River Fall. Breathtakingly beautiful, it’s hard enough that it makes you work a bit but easy enough that most people can climb up the water fall. If for any reason, health or personal preference, you always have the option to walk up through a path outside of Dunn’s River Fall but where you can still take in its beauty.
Now let’s talk about what most of you probably want to read about. The famous nude island. When we first realized we could cross over to the island, I had no idea it was a nude island. We told one of the staff members we wanted to cross over, he handed us two towels and said “Cool. Just in case you don’t know, no clothes allowed. It’s au natural”. I kinda laughed, thinking he was joking but when he told it really was a nude island I backed out.
Heck no! There was no way I was going to be naked around a bunch of strangers. If you know me, you know I just had to poll on Instagram and shockingly most of you actually told me to do it! Later on that night, we spoke to a couple which told us they had actually just gone to the island and tried the nude experience for the first time and loved it and that we should give it a shot. If we didn’t feel comfortable we could just turn around and go right back.
That night we danced at the club which was surprisingly really good compared to all other resort clubs I had been to. The next morning we went on a Catamaran cruise which is basically a boozy cruise. We cruised around the sea, swam in the ocean for about 30 minutes and did some more cruising while you could drink and dance around. What I loved about the excursions, beside obviously trying out new things, is that we always got back by 1 pm which meant we still had the whole day to keep doing our own thing.
Back at the resort, chillin’ on one of the huge couple floats they have in the beach and after having two drinks, I finally decided to give the nude island a shot! Argenis was down from day 1 so off we went. I’m not going to lie, I was freakin’ out! We walked out to the deck, crossed over on the boat and in less than one minute, there we were.
We walked on to this gorgeous little island, with it’s swim-up bar, beautiful tower, and a small beach area you can swim out into. It’s not really an in-your-face naked ambience where everyone’s just standing around naked. Which now that I read that back, sounds ridiculous but for some reason it’s kind of what I was expecting. Couples were mostly either in the pool or lounging around on their own further off to the island edges. Kinda like quickly pulling off a bandaid, we found a semi-private little spot, undressed and quickly got into the pool.
Once in the water, I barely cared because, I mean, how much can you really see while I’m underwater and also the vibe was so much cooler and fun than I was expecting. I would never in my life think of going to a nudist beach but the fact that it was a private little island with no more than maybe 15 couples at a time along with the badass feeling that I got of “yeah, I really did that!”, is a couples-only experience I totally recommend.
I had never ate jerked chicken or any typical Jamaican food before and wow, I was pleasantly surprised! The jerk chicken, steak and basically anything jerk along with the rest of their food was beyond delicious. On our last night, we had dinner at By The Bay and it was just as amazing as it was beautiful. Sitting over the water, with a beautiful view, hearing the waves crash… it was the most perfect way to spend part of our last night in Jamaica.
With three cuties at home and literally no alone time, Couples Tower Isle in Jamaica was exactly what we needed. We got back home relaxed, refreshed and ready to do it all over again. Any suggestions to where our next kid-free vacation should be to, let me know below!
