Stick To Your New Year's Resolutions

New Year, New Me! Here we go again…

We’ve all been there. We make New Year’s resolutions that are many times broken or already forgotten before January is over. The biggest problem in sticking to our New Year’s resolutions is that they are too broad. I am going to lose weight. I am going to land a better job. I am going to save money. These might be the final results you are striving for but what are you going to do to have them go from desires to reality?

That’s what you need to focus on when writing down your New Year’s resolutions. I don’t care if you don’t like writing things down, write these down and place them where you will see them at least once a day until it becomes a part of you. Below are some of my New Year’s resolutions for 2019, broken down so that I know exactly how I will stick to them.

LOSE FAT & BUILD MUSCLE

Of course getting in shape is on my list. I’m currently not the fittest I’ve been, our wedding is in less than six months and with that our honeymoon which I plan on feeling my finest for! What am I going to do? Run 1 mile, 3 times a week. That was not a typo. 1 mile a day because well, obviously, running is not my forte. I hate it actually. So much so that I asked Argenis to not look at or speak to me until we’re done running because everything in that moment just irritates me! Once I’m done it’s a different story and I love the high I get from completing another run. Everybody says you learn to love running and I hope with all my might that this is true.

What else will I do? Weight train 3 times a week after my mile jog.

What else? I will start meal prepping for at least 3 days a week.

Three is apparently my magic number to begin working on my fitness resolution. As it gets easier, I’ll change it up.

GROW MY BRAND

Grow my blog and social media presence. How? Create a blog posting schedule and stick to it. Reach out to ‘X’ amount of brands and apply to ‘X’ amount of campaigns a week. Complete an SEO course. Redesign my brand to represent exactly who I am.

BE MORE PRODUCTIVE

Whether I am at the office, busy with our two toddlers, cleaning, working on the blog, planning our wedding or cooking, I am pretty busy most of the time. I always have an endless list of things to do but instead of writing them down I tend to keep them jumbled in my head which leads to me putting things aside for what I consider more important at the moment. The issue is I end up with 10 last minute things to do and even more frustrated because it’s always my things that I have to rush through.

I can’t change how busy I am right now so how am I going to become more productive with my time? Last year I had a Planner which I was on and off with but I just ordered my first Happy Planner and I am super excited for it! I know, it’s just a planner but it’s perfect for my hectic lifestyle. Pretty and with lots of space to write everything down. I am going to take time every Friday morning to schedule my upcoming blog week, work schedule, cleaning time, meal prep time… and add things as they come up. More importantly, I am going to stick to it and that way keep from putting myself last all the time.

MAKE MY MONEY GROW

Don’t we all want this? This past year I started automatically depositing ‘X’ amount into investments from every paycheck. My resolution this year is to increase the amount I am depositing. How? Create a budget and cut out unnecessary expenses so more of my money can go directly into investing.

Doesn’t matter how little you can save, save it. Put ‘X’ amount into your Savings account, or better yet into an investment account, every paycheck like it’s a bill and unless it’s an emergency don’t touch it. Regardless of how slowly, your money will grow.

TRAVEL THE WORLD

In 2018 we were lucky enough to enjoy three vacations. Mexico for a romantic, adventure-filled getaway without the babies. Dominican Republic as family vacation for my brother’s wedding and Puerto Rico as a Christmas family vacation. Puerto Rico was a first for me and another country I can add to my list of places seen.

What’s my resolution? A couple of years ago, Argenis and I said we wanted to visit one new country a year so for our honeymoon we plan on choosing a fun country to explore. How will we do it? This one goes hand in hand with increasing savings. Less eating out, cutting out unnecessary expenses and sticking to our budget which will mean more money for us to go on another adventure!

I have a couple more New Year’s resolutions that I won’t go on about. I just hope you get a sense of what I’m referring to when I ask you to not just throw out random resolutions into the air but to instead write down exactly how you will complete your 2019 resolutions.
