Halloween is next month and although I will forever be a lover of all things summer, I do love the holidays and all the decorating fun it brings along throughout the rest of the year. This is actually my first attempt at having a little indoor Halloween decorating fun and I am loving it! I didn’t want it to look too cheesy so I aimed for simple Halloween decor that is still fun enough to get the kids excited. Check out our black, orange and white Halloween decoration and hopefully it will give you some spooky ideas for your own place!

Instead of buying random Halloween decor and then thinking of where to place them, I decided to focus mainly on our bookshelf and here is the end result.

PUMPKINS DECOR

It doesn’t quite feel like Halloween (or Thanksgiving or Fall for that matter) without some pumpkins. I wanted to create a bit of a more elegant Halloween decor set-up while obviously keeping it fun because we are talking about Halloween which is why I went with more black and white Halloween decor with hints of orange.

You can find the above black and white pumpkin here and the white Trick or Treat pumpkin in the picture below, here. The mini black, white and orange pumpkins that you see scattered around the bookshelf are so cute and perfect for filling in any empty spaces.

HALLOWEEN TODDLER BOOKS

Scrolling through Halloween decor ideas online, I saw a decorative stack of fake Halloween books which was cute but 20 bucks felt like way too much for fake books. My Mami of two toddlers lightbulb turned on when I remembered I had two Halloween toddler books stored to pull out for them now. Nighty Night, Little Green Monster and The Teeny Tiny Ghost. They fit in perfectly with the Halloween decor and it also makes my cuties feel included even in the decoration process.

Another Halloween book that is perfect if you have little ones and that can double up as Halloween decor is Llama Llama Trick or Treat. If you are like me and still watch Hocus Pocus every year for Halloween, then Hocus Pocus and the all-new sequel is a must have!

TRICK OR TREATER’S

I couldn’t resist getting this pair of trick or treaters because I knew it would be the kids favorite pieces! The cutest curly haired boy in skeleton costume and red headed girl in cat costume are a total hit at home with the kids, even kissing them goodnight before bed!

The gold colored pumpkin candle holder I bought last year as part of my Thanksgiving decor and the black candle fountain was actually a gift that plays the Halloween part perfectly when paired with the rest of the pieces.

DAY OF THE DEAD

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is actually a celebratory day where Mexicans and other Central Americans celebrate their deceased loved ones. After visiting Mexico for the first time and actually learning a bit more on what this day means to them, it’s just so intriguing to me. Paired with a calavera (skull) that we bought in Mexico, I got this beautiful Día de los Muertos candle to subtly add it to the mix. The mask (in the picture below) was actually from our wedding Hora Loca this past June and since it was the same colors as the skull, I decided to throw it in there too because I overthink everything, including Halloween decor. Plus, I love to have little special meanings behind things.

Continuing with the personalization and making it a bit more about us, I printed a collage of my favorite family Halloween images and BOO! there we go. Obviously this collage is my personal favorite Halloween decor touch.

I pulled out a Día de los Muertos display dish that I already owned and bought this matching skulls kitchen towels set to give the kitchen a little Halloween touch as well. Needless to say, the kids loved it!

As with everything else that comes to decor, I say just have fun with it and make it your own.
